Berkeley Economic Review is now accepting submissions for the Spring 2019 Essay Contest!
Every semester, we pick a contemporary economics-related issue that Berkeley students of any major can write about. We then publish the best submissions in that semester’s volume of the journal (see econreview.studentorg.berkeley.edu/editions for past examples).
By sending us one of the best responses, you’ll win all of the following:
- publication of your work in the Spring 2019 Volume of Berkeley Economic Review, one of the top undergraduate economics journals in the world
- cash prizes of up to $50
- recognition on BER’s social media and website (optional)
So without further ado, here’s the prompt:
——-
“Are tax breaks (and other incentives designed to attract corporations) beneficial to the local economies that offer them?”
Write a short essay (up to 750 words) to support your claim.

DUE DATE: Saturday, March 9th @11:59pm
Please send your response as a PDF to berkeleyeconreview@gmail.com, with the subject line: “S19 Essay Contest: [Your name]”
