Cal’s premier undergraduate economics journal is now accepting submissions for its Fall 2018 Essay Contest!
Every semester, we pick a contemporary issue related to economics that Berkeley students of any major can write about, and publish the 3 best submissions in that semester’s volume of the journal. See econreview.studentorg.berkeley.edu/editions for past examples.
By writing one of the top responses, you will:
• have your work published in the Fall 2018 Volume of Berkeley Economic Review, one of the top undergraduate economics journals in the world
• be recognized on BER’s social media and website (optional)
• receive cash prizes of up to $25
So without further ado, here’s the prompt:

Rising tuition and student loans have become a pressing issue in the United States. Should tuition to public universities be partially subsidized, completely subsidized, left in their current state, or otherwise altered?
Write a short essay (300 to 600 words) to support your claim. Detail a potential solution (if applicable) and its economic implications.
